Our Story

Built for farmers who want more clarity, confidence and control.

Planning for Profit was created to help farm businesses step back from the day-to-day and focus on what really drives long-term success.

This is not about working harder.

It is about thinking differently.

Adapted from the internationally respected Ranching for Profit methodology, Planning for Profit brings practical, proven farm business thinking to UK agriculture in a way that feels relevant, realistic and grounded in the pressures facing farming today. Ranching for Profit has been helping agricultural businesses improve profitability and decision-making since 1983.

At the centre of Planning for Profit is one simple belief:

Your business should support the life you want, not control it.

The aim is not simply to improve profit, although that matters. It is to help farmers make better decisions, gain more confidence in the future, reduce unnecessary pressure and build businesses that are stronger for the next generation.

Sam Charlton

Sam Charlton leads Planning for Profit in the UK and Europe.

With years of experience working alongside farm businesses, Sam understands both the commercial realities and the human pressures that come with running a farm.

Straight talking, practical and highly experienced, Sam helps farmers challenge assumptions, ask better questions and think differently about profit, planning and business performance.

Her role is not to tell people what to do.

It is to help them see their business more clearly, make better decisions and leave with confidence in the direction they are heading.

“Sam is the brand.” Her credibility, relationships and practical understanding of agriculture sit at the heart of Planning for Profit.
