Farming can be profitable.
Doing it well builds the life you want.
WHAT IS PLANNING FOR PROFIT?
Planning for Profit is a practical, results-driven business programme for farmers, adapted from the proven principles of the internationally respected Ranching for Profit School based in the US, which has been helping ag producers build stronger businesses since 1983.
This intensive 5-day, hands-on course equips you with the clarity, confidence, and decision-making tools needed to move your farm business forward. You’ll learn how to read and use your numbers, understand what truly drives profit, build a clear business plan, and set meaningful goals for your business, your family, and your future.
Planning for Profit goes beyond theory. It focuses on how successful farm businesses actually think, plan, and manage. So you can make better decisions with less stress and more control.
Once you have completed this course, you will also have the opportunity to continue your learning through Executive Link, a facilitated peer advisory group designed to support implementation, accountability and long-term results.
This isn’t just about new skills or networking. It’s about adopting a management mindset that creates lasting progress.
Get the tools. Get the outcomes. Get your business on track.

Things are changing
Decisions shaping farm businesses matter more than ever. Stepping away from day-to-day work creates the space to think clearly, sharpen decision-making, challenge assumptions, and plan the future of your farm and family. This course focuses on practical, proven farm business tools — not theory. You’ll set clear goals, strengthen your farm finances, economics, management and identify what’s holding your business back. Leave with the clarity, skills, and confidence to move past barriers and build the business you want.

Sam Charlton
Sam Charlton is the founder of Planning for Profit in the UK, inspired by the world-renowned Ranching for Profit school. She has spent over 21 years working in agriculture, with experience spanning finance, farm business management, professional extension and strategic planning.
Sam has worked at board level with diverse agricultural businesses and enjoys helping people make sense of complex challenges. She’s known for her practical approach and working alongside farmers and teams to focus on what they do best.
Raised on a small beef farm, Sam now farms in partnership on a mixed livestock farm in Northumberland with her husband Jono, their daughter Isobel and family. Farming runs through her work and her life, and she is motivated by a genuine care for the people in the industry and the opportunities that lie ahead.
Emily Grant
A missed generation farmer, Emily started her farming career with a handful of ewes on an annually rented field. Initially the business focused on producing prime lambs from pasture. With a strong interest in genetics and performance recording, the opportunity arose to partner with Innovis producing Abertex and Abermax rams. In 2018, the farm then became a dedicated ram growing unit.
Emily also works in farm consultancy and facilitation. Following a spell with QMS helping run and facilitate their grazing group programmes, she started her own business in 2019 specialising in supporting beef and sheep producers to develop sustainable, pasture based farming systems. She works both one-to-one and with farmer groups. Emily holds a BSc in Agriculture, and an MSc in Environmental Management.
